I am so grateful to have found you, Dr. Handwerger! After seeing many doctors who couldn't find anything wrong" with me, you took the time to listen to me and really find out what was going on. When my brother-in-law told me that he was going through the HCG weight loss program with Dr. Bronner I was very intrigued but skeptical. No one else knew that I had already done my own private research, reading up on the theory of weight loss through the use of HCG. But that's the thing, I wasn't convinced that it was anything more than just theory. I've struggled with my weight since I was a teenager. I had tried several changes in my diet and exercise throughout the years and can honestly say that I had committed to each attempt, but never found resolution. When I tried asking for help from my general practitioners in the past, they had nothing to offer up to help me. I had developed insulin resistance and had been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and the only treatment that was offered up was symptomatic medications that did NOT truly resolve any issues I was dealing with. I knew that western medicine was only every going to give me band aids to put on my issues and unless I branched out and looked to natural medicine for an answer I was never going to be truly healthy.
I watched quietly while my brother-in-law started melting away and then decided to take a leap of faith. I went from 215 lbs down to 181 lbs in 40 days, a total loss of 34 lbs. My body's composition completely changed. Something else happened though during those 40 days: Committing to this protocol caused me to truly take care of myself for the first time with no guilt. I shed weight, clothes, and even emotions that I had been carrying around. I was given hope for the first time that my body could finally be what I knew deep inside it was capable of being: balanced.
I am no longer taking any of my previous medications and feel more energetic than ever. Dr. Bronner is not just a knowledgeable physician, but has the ability to listen and connect with his patients, and a drive to help them achieve true balance. I have now been maintaining my weight loss and look forward to going through one more phase of HCG in the coming month. Finally, a doctor that listens and understands! I’ve been seeing Dr. Handwerger now for a few months and I can’t express how happy I am now. I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer a few years ago and went through a total thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine ablation treatment. Because my cancer was military connected, I saw several military and VA doctors. They put me on the standard Synthroid treatment plan to replace my thyroid hormones and repress any cancer re-growth. After a few years on the medication, I realized those doctors didn’t fully understand what it was like to not have a thyroid. They told me my hypothyroidism symptoms, like fatigue, brain fog and short-term memory problems, had nothing to do with my thyroid condition because my TSH was normal. I never thought I was going to feel normal again and I was almost too hypothyroid to fight it. I did my own research and with the help of websites like www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and related support groups, I learned I needed to be on Armour thyroid and probably some sort of adrenal support. I managed to get a prescription for Armour, but when I went in for follow-up, they wanted to take it away. I was yelled at by the doctors telling me that Armour medication has no formal regulation and that one pill might contain .5 grains and the next could be 5 grains. They said I was extremely hyperthyroid, based on a TSH lab test, and that my bones were going to weaken and break. They said if I continued to stay on Armour, I was going to have a heart attack. I knew none of these things were true, but I was so frustrated. I needed to find a doctor who would listen and help me.
When I went in for my first appointment, I was shocked and amazed. Dr. Handwerger listened to me and agreed with the treatment I had read about. He told me I could relax now and that he was going to take great care of me. He has! He knew I needed to be tested for Reverse T3, and Free T4, not just TSH. He helped me adjust my Armour prescription and he tested and confirmed I also needed adrenal support. We also found out that my liver needed support and that my vitamin D and B were dangerously low. I’m happy to say that thanks to Dr. Handwerger, I’m finally feeling like I did before I had my thyroid removed. I’ll never have to face this complicated problem alone again.
